The article explores the relationship between Latin literature and the Augustan empire, with particular attention to the Roman elegies of Propertius. The transformations of this literary genre are examined in the fourth book, rich in new themes (religious, etiological, moral), both in the historical-cultural context and in the relationship with the other members of the circle of Maecenas (Virgil, Horace), also highlighting the possible influences of the author on the princeps.
