The “Europe of knowledge”. First research notes on training, identity and new citizenship in the process of European integration

The process of European integration, which began in the fifties as a purely economic phenomenon, also involved the cultural dimension, giving rise to an initial process of Europeanization of the people. However, it would seem that this process of construction of the EU, economic first and then political and legal, has not been accompanied by a similar and parallel process of integration of EU citizens. This article seeks to present a draft framework of the present status of research related to European integration, focusing on the relationship between training, identity and European citizenship and on the new possible research paths that the scientific community can undertake, in order to build a more robust and stronger European knowledge society, based on an effective EU citizenship education.
