This article is an in-depth study of how a community of practice [1] can collaborate towards professional development in an Action Research [2] framework, online. The main purpose of the study is to investigate the efficacy of the suggested model, which is based upon a multifaceted approach combining constructivist and experiential learning theories [3], computer-supported collaborative work technologies [4] and Action Research commitment to empowering both individuals and organizations [5]. The ultimate aim of the study is threefold: 1) to advance our understanding of communities of practice, 2) to document the effectiveness of learning within them in an Action Research framework; and 3) to advocate the adoption of the OLAR-CoPs model for professional development, as a more effective form of in-service training, in other districts or contexts.
