The aim of this article is to re-examine the controversial passage of the Platonic Seventh Letter, dealing with Leon of Salamis’ alleged exile. This passage raises many philological and historical problems which may be solved by emending τῶν τότε φευγόντων φίλων into τῶν τότε δυστυχούντων φίλων.
