Luigi Lodovico Pasinetti (1930–2023) was the last of the great economists associated with the Anglo-Italian School of economics, which was in some ways launched by Piero Sraffa’s revival of classical political economy and was first mentioned by Maurice Dobb. As DeVivo (1985, p. 37) notes: “Sraffa always represented an important link between English (in particular Cambridge) and Italian economists (Sraffa to the end of his life kept strong personal and cultural links with his own country).” The Anglo-Italians were at the forefront of the Cambridge Keynesian critique of orthodoxy and the revival of the classical approach, but they were also central to the extension of the Keynesian Revolution. Pasinetti can be seen as a leading scholar of the second generation of Cambridge Keynesians.
