By discussing some varieties of psycho-physical dualism, the paper reaches the following conclusion. In different contexts, man can be legitimately interpreted as both a deterministic and an indeterministic system. However, determinism or indeterminism cannot be applied to man as a whole, to the concrete human beings who act responsibly within the world by pursuing determinate aims. For it is these human beings who formulated determinism and indeterminism, and, in so doing and thinking, they were acting neither deterministically nor indeterministically, but in a radically free way.

Abstract
By discussing some varieties of psycho-physical dualism, the paper reaches the following conclusion. In different contexts, man can be legitimately interpreted as both a deterministic and an indeterministic system. However, determinism or indeterminism cannot be applied to man as a whole, to the concrete human beings who act responsibly within the world by pursuing determinate aims. For it is these human beings who formulated determinism and indeterminism, and, in so doing and thinking, they were acting neither deterministically nor indeterministically, but in a radically free way.File in questo prodotto:
