Pastoral care and Christian education in second post-war Italy. The testimony of Don Lorenzo Milani

This paper rebuilds the human, religious and cultural life of don Lorenzo Milani (1923-1967), and in particular the vicissitudes and the clamour that was provoked by his work Esperienze pastorali, in the framework of the more general and complex situation which marked the life of the Church of Pius XII and the Italian society in the aftermath of the Second World War. Thanks to the use of a rich archival and printed documentation, the A., after placing in the correct original context, re-reads, under an authentically historical perspective, the rôle and the testimony of the “priest of Barbiana”, who was one of the leading figures of pastor of souls, as well as educator and testimony of the Christian faith in the 1950’s and 1960’s. / L’articolo ripercorre le vicende umane, religiose e culturali di don Lorenzo Milani, e in particolare le vicissitudini e il clamore suscitati dalla celebre opera di quest’ultimo Esperienze pastorali, nel quadro delle più generali e complesse vicende che contrassegnarono la vita della Chiesa di Pio XII e della società italiana negli anni del secondo dopoguerra. L’A., sulla scorta di una ricca documentazione archistivistica e a stampa, contestualizza e rilegge, in chiave autenticamente storica, la testimonianza del “prete di Barbiana”, una delle più grandi figure di pastore d’anime, educatore e testimone della fede cristiana negli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta.
