Entre as décadas finais do século XIX e as primeiras décadas do século XX houve distribuição e circulação de livros italianos entre os imigrantes e seus descendentes. Silabários, livros de leitura, de religião, de aritmética, de história, de geografia, de cantos, entre outros que seguiam o programa curricular vigente na Itália, atravessaram o Atlântico para serem adotados nas escolas italianas em São Paulo. O objeto de investigação deste artigo, o centenário e ainda publicado Cuore, de Edmondo De Amicis, cuja primeira edição data de 1886, na Itália, para assim tornar-se um grande sucesso editorial ganhou traduções e foi adotado nas escolas paulistas. A intenção neste artigo é compreender, de um lado, as políticas educacionais que regraram a produção de livros escolares para as escolas italianas no exterior, e de outro lado, as motivações que levaram à circulação e a distribuição para escolas italianas e paulistas, entre fins do século XIX e início do século XX. Ancorado nos referenciais da História Cultural e História da Educação e mobilizando o corpus conceitual em especial de Chartier (1994,1996,1998, 2004) acerca da produção e representação foram definidos os procedimentos, os instrumentos, as fontes e as direções de análise. A análise documental toma como fonte privilegiada além do Cuore, a imprensa, os relatórios de cônsules, ofícios, despachos, circulares ministeriais e anuário das escolas italianas e da instrução pública paulista.
Between the final decades of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, Italian books were distributed and circulated among immigrants and their descendants. The intention of this article is to understand, on the one hand, the educational policies that regulated the production of schoolbooks for Italian schools abroad, and on the other hand, the motivations that led to the circulation and distribution to Italian and São Paulo schools, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Anchored in the references of Cultural History and History of Education and mobilizing the conceptual corpus, especially of Chartier (1994, 1996, 1998, 2004) regarding production and representation, the procedures, instruments, sources and directions of analysis were defined. The documentary analysis takes as privileged sources, in addition to Cuore, the press, consuls' reports, official letters, dispatches, ministerial circulars and the yearbook of Italian schools and public education in São Paulo
