This paper aims to highlight the role of logic-based principles underlying linguistic analysis in modern stenography, through specimens from the original English heritage and adaptive models in other languages (XVII- XX centuries). By identifying inferential connections within discourse and relevant meaningful elements in words and sentences – at the phonetic, morphological, and phrasal levels – shorthand techniques focus on functional syntagmatic relations to capture “natural” sense beyond the surface idiomatic structures.
