The aim of the present reflection is to highlight how the entire course of Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit is characterised by a continuous attempt at reconciliation that stems from and equal recognition, a prerequisite for the offer of authentic forgiveness. After analysing Hegelian figures in which recognition is only one-sided, such as in the Herr-Knecht dialectic, the dialectic between acting and judging consciousness takes on an even more particular value. Reconciliation is here the specific and supreme moment of the recognition of the mutual equality between the two consciences. From the Hegelian experience of arriving at forgiveness, we can draw a valuable lesson for our own existences: only by recognising and forgiving each other can we forgive the other, without establishing hierarchies, judgements or discriminatory forms of domination, precisely because we are able to recognise what we really are and recompose every aspect of our selves, placing them in a vision of completeness towards unity.

Abstract
The aim of the present reflection is to highlight how the entire course of Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit is characterised by a continuous attempt at reconciliation that stems from and equal recognition, a prerequisite for the offer of authentic forgiveness. After analysing Hegelian figures in which recognition is only one-sided, such as in the Herr-Knecht dialectic, the dialectic between acting and judging consciousness takes on an even more particular value. Reconciliation is here the specific and supreme moment of the recognition of the mutual equality between the two consciences. From the Hegelian experience of arriving at forgiveness, we can draw a valuable lesson for our own existences: only by recognising and forgiving each other can we forgive the other, without establishing hierarchies, judgements or discriminatory forms of domination, precisely because we are able to recognise what we really are and recompose every aspect of our selves, placing them in a vision of completeness towards unity.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
