The contribution examines a late fifth/early sixth-century inscription from the early Christian basilica at Kampos (ancient Oinoe) in the context of the Christianization of Ikaria and the eastern Aegean. The text, which mentions the collection of fines by ecclesiastical functionaries (the oikonomos and the ekklesiekdikos) with the aid of the saltarioi, suggests the existence of a great domain (σάλτον) on the island, possibly managed by the Church. Hence, the inscription attests the organizational and material strength of the local Christian community during Late Antiquity

Abstract
The contribution examines a late fifth/early sixth-century inscription from the early Christian basilica at Kampos (ancient Oinoe) in the context of the Christianization of Ikaria and the eastern Aegean. The text, which mentions the collection of fines by ecclesiastical functionaries (the oikonomos and the ekklesiekdikos) with the aid of the saltarioi, suggests the existence of a great domain (σάλτον) on the island, possibly managed by the Church. Hence, the inscription attests the organizational and material strength of the local Christian community during Late AntiquityFile in questo prodotto:
