He fashions a Wonderful World only based on the previous literature about the oriental countries, since he never travelled and he never reached the East. one of his sources is the old-French Roman d’Alexandre. it is interesting to study the journey of Alexander’s text within a book that pretends to be a real travel reportage. How do Alexander’s merveilles become true and which is the narrative strategy to transform a literary account into an alleged travel reportage? our aim is to answer these questions by focusing on the performance of Jean de Mandeville, witness and director of his oriental adventures.
