All’ombra delle carte: l’impatto archivistico sul paesaggio agrario

This article aims to analyze the inventory of the Consorzio di Bonifica della Val d’Orcia as a tool for representing the geographical context from which it originates. Archives can also be useful in representing the territories that produced them. Remembering a territory means being able to satisfy the desire to know how it has grown and how it has changed. This story can be read in the archives, if they are available, as in our case. The Consortium archive is an excellent example in this regard. Highlighting the focal points of the inventory allows us to reconstruct not only the history of the consortium or of this troubled territory, but also offers useful insights for understanding the evolution of the Val d’Orcia as a whole. The archive is not only a mirror of the facts but, above all, respect for those facts. Once more, the need for responsible and truly sustainable citizenship emerges from the archive. Specifically, responsibility translates into the priority need for a conscious reading of places, people and contexts.
