The article proposes the critical edition of the unpublished Sapphic ode The Poetry of Carlo Hercolani (Macerata, 1756-1831, ecclesiastic, literatus, classicist and translator), dedicated to the value of poetry as a literary form and to the functions of poetic genres, created and self-interpreted starting from the Lectures on Rhetoric and Belles Lettres by Hugh Blair. The text is transcribed on the basis of the autograph, accompanied both by the description of the revision procedure attested by the internal processing phases and by the apparatus of the variants contained in the other three not-autograph copies that transmits it.

L’articolo propone l’edizione critica dell’ode saffica, inedita, La Poesia di Carlo Hercolani (Macerata, 1756-1831, ecclesiastico, letterato, classicista e traduttore), dedicata al valore della poesia in quanto forma letteraria e alle funzioni dei generi poetici, ideata e autocommentata a partire dalle Lectures on Rhetoric and Belles Lettres di Hugh Blair. Il testo è trascritto sulla base del testimone autografo, corredato sia dalla descrizione del procedimento di revisione attestato dalle fasi elaborative interne sia dall’apparato delle varianti presenti nelle altre tre copie non autografe che lo trasmettono.
