La battaglia di Lepanto nella costruzione della «controideologia» franchista

In this study we will try to verify how the memory of the battle of Lepanto, very much alive in the commemorative works of the time, contributed, together with other myths, heroes and saints of Spanish history, to the construction of the of «counterideology » and Francoist memory and how the various ideologists and propagandists of Francoism established a parallelism between the dangers existing in the twentieth century and the threat posed to Christianity by the Turkish Empire in the sixteenth century. Of course, in this proposal we will also try to verify how for the Francoism’s ideología restringida the return with the memory to the heroes and saints of Spanish history was a necessary duty to recover el espíritu de Lepanto and keep alive the idea of cruzada that united Felipe II with Franco and Lepanto with the Civil War.

In tale studio si cercherà di verificare come il ricordo della battaglia di Lepanto, molto vivo nelle opere celebrative del tempo, abbia contribuito, insieme ad altri miti, eroi e santi della storia spagnola, alla costruzione della «controideologia» e della memoria franchista e come i vari ideologi e propagandisti del franchismo stabilirono un parallelismo tra i pericoli esistenti nel XX secolo e la minaccia che rappresentò l’impero turco per la cristianità nel XVI secolo. Naturalmente, in questa nostra proposta si cercherà anche di verificare come per la ideología restringida franchista il ritornare con la memoria agli eroi e ai santi della storia spagnola fosse un dovere necessario per recuperare el espíritu de Lepanto e mantenere viva l’idea di cruzada che univa Felipe II con Franco e Lepanto con la guerra civil.
