The contribution is the result of a lesson held at the APD School – streaming events - and is based on the observation of the multifunctional nature of the archives and their diversity from other types of cultural heritage. The transversality, the concepts of time and space are analyzed in relation to the evolution of archival sediments, their management and their multiform use. The article focuses on the analysis of the civic, public and political function of archives, after recalling central themes, such as the functional relationship between order and disorder and the digital context. The last part reflects on the need to integrate archival systems into the daily reali- ty, combining them with other narrative elements useful for the purpose of recon- structing historical, geographical, political and social contexts.
