During the last years, desertification has become one of the most serious environmental problem, with both ecological and economic implications. The CRA-CMA, as part of a research sponsored by the National Committee to Combat Desertification and Drought (CNLSD), has developed a methodology for assessing the level of vulnerability referred to land degradation processes. This methodology provides the framework DPSIR through which the geo-physical and socioeconomic indicators are properly classified. The weight of each indicator in the calculation of the final Land Vulnerability Index (LVI) is estimated through multivariate analysis.

Abstract

During the last years, desertification has become one of the most serious environmental problem, with both ecological and economic implications. The CRA-CMA, as part of a research sponsored by the National Committee to Combat Desertification and Drought (CNLSD), has developed a methodology for assessing the level of vulnerability referred to land degradation processes. This methodology provides the framework DPSIR through which the geo-physical and socioeconomic indicators are properly classified. The weight of each indicator in the calculation of the final Land Vulnerability Index (LVI) is estimated through multivariate analysis.
