This article examines the research potential of school archives in the field of historical-educational research as well as of history teaching in schools. After highlighting the lack of consideration reserved to these cultural institutions today, this paper intends to demonstrate the significant contribution that archives could give to both research and teaching. With this aim, after describing the evolution of legislation on school archives, the article presents a list of relevant projects carried out by Italian schools and local authorities. Finally, it will be discussed the role of archives as a learning resource and “collective memory”, through which it is possible to reconstruct the past and create an intergenerational dialogue.
Il presente contributo esamina le potenzialità di ricerca degli archivi scolastici nel settore della ricerca storico-educativa e dell'insegnamento della storia nelle scuole. Dopo aver evidenziato la scarsa considerazione riservata sino ad oggi, questo articolo intende dimostrare il contributo significativo che gli archivi potrebbero dare alla ricerca e all’insegnamento. A tal fine, dopo aver descritto l'evoluzione della legislazione sugli archivi scolastici, l'articolo presenta un elenco dei progetti realizzati dalle scuole e dagli enti locali italiani. Infine, viene discusso il ruolo degli archivi come risorsa di apprendimento e “memoria collettiva”, attraverso la quale è possibile ricostruire il passato e creare un dialogo intergenerazionale.
