Promoting Environmental Awareness Through Art

Art has since ever had the positive intent of producing expression and communications. Today there is an increasing interest in using art as a means for spreading a higher grade of environment awareness. Individual and collective human behavior is responsible of any change of the environment state. Besides economic and political tools, art is reputed to contribute changing human behavior, due to the possibility of sentimental commitment of audience to art message. The paper critically explores the factual effectiveness of inducing environment awareness through art. After a brief theoretical framework, four cases of art-environment interactions are reported. Future research should improve attention to the emergent topic of artenvironment interactions.
