According to Augustine, the theme of the creation introduces a new conception of contingency and offers a different response to the Platonic doctrine of the participa- tion: Christ is the true Mediator, both in the “first Creation”, that inaugurates the call of the creature from nothingness to being; both in the event of the “second Creation” which accomplishes the mystery of redemption. Through the mediation of the Incar- nate Word, participation thus takes on a historical-salvific value: from a side, eternity opens up to time; from another side, time opens up to eternity thanks to the spiritual in- tentionality of the inner man, who thus experiences the possibility of a new beginning.

Abstract
According to Augustine, the theme of the creation introduces a new conception of contingency and offers a different response to the Platonic doctrine of the participa- tion: Christ is the true Mediator, both in the “first Creation”, that inaugurates the call of the creature from nothingness to being; both in the event of the “second Creation” which accomplishes the mystery of redemption. Through the mediation of the Incar- nate Word, participation thus takes on a historical-salvific value: from a side, eternity opens up to time; from another side, time opens up to eternity thanks to the spiritual in- tentionality of the inner man, who thus experiences the possibility of a new beginning.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
