Riforma alfabetica e ideologia. La ricezione del dizionario trilingue di Miller in Unione Sovietica e in Occidente

Alphabet reform and ideology: The reception of the trilingual dictionary by Vs. F. Miller in the Soviet Union and in the West. In the early history of Soviet language policy the alphabet question was a crucial issue, conditioned, as it was, by the political and ideological agenda of the newly established power. The present paper takes into consideration a small fragment of this complex and multifarious aspect of language building (jazykovoe stroitel’stvo). It aims at presenting and shortly discussing the various, sometimes totally opposite attitudes of Soviet and Western scholars with regard to a lexicographic work, namely the Ossetic-Russian-German dictionary by the Russian academician Vsevolod Fedorovich Miller. Compiled, but not completed before the Revolution, it was posthumously published in a totally different cultural and, what is more relevant in our case, alphabetical situation.
