The article explains the governmental strategies to develop ICT in Education from the 80s until the present through many projects called: FORTIC, SET, Innovascuola, Digital School, LIM and Cl@sses 2.0. The paper shows also the structure of initial teacher education in Italy and, in particular, the courses directed towards the development of technological skills in pre-service teachers for the use of ICT during their future workplace. The courses are mainly of two types: the former (called “Informatics”) develops the ICT literacy and the latter (called “Educational Technology”) helps future teachers to understand and use ICT in the classroom for critical thinking. The authors present a model for the technological teacher education, some examples of good practices of ICT in Teacher Education developed by Italian universities.
