Elegir el “buen camino”. Biografía de un recurso didáctico para la propaganda contra el alcoholismo y la educación del buen ciudadano, entre Alemania, Inglaterra, Francia e Italia (1800-1910)

This contribution examines in depth the relevance of visual education within anti-alcohol campaigns developed between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The essay reconstructs the 'biography' of a rare, Italian-language chromolithographic educational chart on alcoholism. Having identified both the engraver and the publisher (both German) and analysed their transnational circulation, the study sits within the European landscape of preventive strategies aimed at youth. In particular, it explores how the school institution was transformed into an outpost of the international anti-alcohol movement. The work focuses on the use of wall charts as key pedagogical resources for transmitting the values of temperance, analysing the influence of iconic culture in shaping the social and hygienic behaviours of that period.
