How does art emerge from revolt? Twenty years after the riots that engulfed the French suburbs, this volume analyses literary, linguistic and artistic representations of France’s urban peripheries. Contributions examine how writers, filmmakers, and artists from these regions construct counter-narratives responding to dominant media and political discourses. Through an analysis of works produced since the 2005 riots, this book explores the aesthetic and social issues involved in this increasingly central cultural output. It also highlights how literature, cinema, and art are contributing to the rewriting of the French national narrative and the legitimisation of long-marginalised voices.

Abstract
How does art emerge from revolt? Twenty years after the riots that engulfed the French suburbs, this volume analyses literary, linguistic and artistic representations of France’s urban peripheries. Contributions examine how writers, filmmakers, and artists from these regions construct counter-narratives responding to dominant media and political discourses. Through an analysis of works produced since the 2005 riots, this book explores the aesthetic and social issues involved in this increasingly central cultural output. It also highlights how literature, cinema, and art are contributing to the rewriting of the French national narrative and the legitimisation of long-marginalised voices.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
