The Archaeological Mission in Libya of the University of Macerata, founded in 1968, conducts investigations and research in the history of ancient architecture at the sites of Leptis Magna and Sabratha in Tripolitania. It currently operates under an agreement with the Department of Antiquities of Libya, signed in Tripoli on 29 October 2023. The agreement provides for the study, restoration, and publication of monumental complexes in the two ancient cities, training programmes for the staff of the Libyan Department, and collaboration on historical archive research. The investigations have focused in particular on the Arch of Trajan at Leptis Magna.
La Missione Archeologica in Libia dell'Università di Macerata, fondata nel 1968, svolge indagini e ricerche di Storia dell'architettura antica nei siti di Leptis Magna e Sabratha, in Tripolitania. Attualmente, opera grazie all'accordo con il Department of Antiquities della Libia, sottoscritto a Tripoli il 29 ottobre 2023. L'accordo prevede lo studio, il restauro e la pubblicazione di complessi monumentali nelle due città antiche, formazione e training per il personale del Dipartimento libico, collaborazione sul tema degli archivi storici.
