The project included an excavation campaign held from July 3 to 19, 2025, organized by building upon the results of previous research conducted by the University of Macerata—particularly by Prof. E. Catani—in the ancient necropoleis of Sunai el Abiad and Beida, located in the Cyrenaican chora (eastern Libya). This initiative represents the natural continuation of a well-established academic tradition of our University in the region. The investigations involved systematic field explorations that made it possible to map, georeference, record, and survey various architectural and hypogean tombs, sarcophagi, rock-cut graves, and other features, with the support of drone overflights. The mission offered a valuable opportunity to enhance existing knowledge and to gather a large amount of new data, integrating direct fieldwork with archival and scientific literature sources, in order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of this largely unpublished ancient landscape. The work also aimed to strengthen international scientific collaboration with Libya and to initiate a strategy for the protection, conservation, and enhancement of this significant yet unfortunately heavily damaged archaeological heritage.

Abstract
The work also aimed to strengthen international scientific collaboration with Libya and to initiate a strategy for the protection, conservation, and enhancement of this significant yet unfortunately heavily damaged archaeological heritage.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
