L'area di Santa Maria a piè di Chienti in età antica

This paper attempts to reconstruct the historical and archaeological context of the ancient period in the limited area of ​​the middle Chienti valley occupied by the church of Santa Maria a piè di Chienti in the Montecosaro area (MC), a veritable palimpsest of a history spanning more than a millennium. From this perspective, the paper seeks to reconstruct and synthesize the findings of archival documents and previous studies, enriching our knowledge of the area during the Roman period with further insights into settlement forms and production typologies, including reference to the phenomenon of the reuse of Roman architectural materials in the historic church building.

Il contributo tenta di ricostruire il quadro storico-archeologico in età antica nel circoscritto settore della media vallata del Chienti occupato dalla chiesa di Santa Maria a piè di Chienti nel territorio di Montecosaro (MC), vero e proprio palinsesto di una storia lunga più di un millennio. In questa prospettiva il lavoro cerca di riprendere e sintetizzare i risultati di documenti di archivio e studi pregressi, arricchendo di ulteriori spunti le conoscenze dell'area in età romana, tra forme di insediamento e tipologie di produzione, senza escludere un riferimento al fenomeno di reimpiego di materiale architettonico romano nell'edificato storico della chiesa.
