Maffeo Pantaleoni: Pioneer of the main criteria behind bank bailouts?

Maffeo Pantaleoni is known for his contributions to economic theory and for his prominent role in the political and economic debate of his time. Although his work is mostly associated with topics such as the theory of value, distribution and public finance, Pantaleoni contribution is also relevant in terms of his critical view on bank bail-outs. In relation to this, after analysing Maffeo Pantaleoni's views on the malfeasance and corruption of his time in the banking sector during both the Banca Romana scandal and the fall of the Credito Mobiliare Italiano, the paper aims to highlight the relevance of the economist's thought in relation to strategies that can be implemented in today's bank bail-outs.
