Novità e trasformazioni nell’officina epigrafica cirenaica fra Repubblica e Impero

The paper analyses the characteristics of the Cyrenean epigraphic workshop in Greek and Latin at the transition from the Republican to the Principate period. The impulse of Roman civilisation on local writing practice is assessed and the impact of Romanisation on the Hellenic substratum is measured. A framework of linguistic, monumental and graphic interferences is outlined and a common epigraphic horizon is recognised, with hybridisms and contaminations in monumental aspects, forms, lexicon and syntax, and palaeography. The lack of a stable Roman presence, in the absence of a structural colonial policy, probably determined a certain dissimilarity in the results of the writing practice, which was evidently adopted by local individuals who had come into contact with Rome.
