After describing the process of affirmation of the military pedagogy model in Europe and Italy, the article focuses on the militarization experiment that involved the G. Leopardi boarding school in Macerata in the years 1886-1893. Clarified the historical-educational framework, three books for soldiers present in the boarding school library and published during the institute’s military experimentation period are examined - also in light of contemporary scholastic and educational literature: La vita del reggimento by Nicola Marselli (1889), Perché e come si fa il soldato by Felice Mariani (1889) and L’ufficiale moderno by Pietro Gramantieri (1893).
