There are no right answers to wrong questions. Therefore, at first the text aims to highlight the complexity of the theme “adaptive reuse of dismissed or underused religious heritage” and the right topics to deal with it. The paper develops in three directions: it underlines the relevance of some – often unconsidered – ontological assumptions, then it focuses on the contemporary context, and finally it highlights the non-reducibility of places to mere scenographies. In this way it attempts to offer a framework within which to think about concrete cases and take responsibility for transformation decisions.
