This article offers a new reading and interpretation of an inscription from Nicopolis (Epirus), considered as one of the first attestations of the imperial cult in Epirus. T. Pomponius Atticus, a libertus from the Roman colony of Butrint and tied to the Augustan family, might be responsible of the construction of a small temple for the cult of the Lares Augusti, at the basis of the establishment of the imperial cult in Nicopolis and in the whole East.

Abstract
