The diamesic shift in interlingual subtitling. Examples of transposition of dialogue particles from German to Italian In recent decades, owing to the spread of digital technology there has been an increasing interest in the methods and findings of audiovisual translation research, focusing in particular on dubbing and subtitling. This paper deals with subtitling as a diamesic shift from the oral source language (German) to the written target language (Italian), taking dialogue particles as its specific object of enquiry. Particles occur frequently in spoken language and have relevant functions in oral communication. The study aims to investigate whether or not particles should be preserved in subtitles, given that they are usually omitted as a result of marked text reduction strategies. Because of time and space constrains, only the gist of original dialogues is usually conveyed, with subtitles being the product of accurate language selection. Running counter officially prescribed norms, this contribution emphasizes the need to fully consider the role and significance of dialogue particles and their pragmatic impact.

Abstract
Running counter officially prescribed norms, this contribution emphasizes the need to fully consider the role and significance of dialogue particles and their pragmatic impact.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
