This essay is intended as a contribution to the search for deep and invariant structures of creativity, at a level underlying and preceding the formative investment and the very poietic differentiation between the various forms of artistic expression. This search for inter-semiotic archetypal constructs is implemented with a comparative structural approach between modes of articulation of the poetic form and the musical compositional structures (with reference to a specific compositional and formal typology in the classical western music). The most famous of giacomo leopardi’s idylls, L’infinito, was chosen as the case study, precisely because of its universally recognized transcendent aesthetic value. The chosen cognitivist exegetical approach reveals shared archetypes and enlightens relations between the various arts in a different way than other researches based on stylistic-aesthetic criteria, as well as identifying, specifically, an important trait of leopardi’s poetics.
