The essay focuses on the classifications and the colour lexicon which appear in the Physiognomonica of the Aristotelian Corpus and in Adamantius. The gaze, colour and movement of the eyes are among the most important sēmeia to which most attention is given, and which are closely related to the concepts expressed by the terms enargeia and epiprepeia. In the Physiognomonica of the Aristotelian Corpus, the descriptions are shorter and more linear compared to the later texts of Polemon, Adamantius and the Anonymus Latinus, where they are much more structured, meticulous and detailed, becoming an essential and meaningful part of an ever more masterly ekphrastic technique.
