Architettura pubblica della prima metà del Novecento:dal progetto alla costruzione. Lo Stadio della Vittoria ed il Monumento ai Caduti di Macerata

The issue of the discrepancy between a building's design and its actual construction is one of the key points discussed in recent studies on the preservati.on of twentieth-century architecture, often a source of important facts that are even capable of modifying our historical-critical evaluation of a number of 'icons' of the architectural production of that period. The issue is also important as regards the structural safety of buildings, since the presence of completed, documented design projects does not guarantee that buildings have been constructed in line with their design specifications. Moreover, the peculiar characteristics of local builders and craftsmen, the economie circumstances and the various diff erent professional figures involved in the construction of a building have often led to changes during the construction phase that are rarely recorded in official drawings, though they are often noted in the financial reports produced when a building has been completed. The case of Macerata's Stadio della Vittoria stadium and its war memorial is part of this research, initiated with the purpose of drawing up a systematic analysis of the construction technologies and materials actually used in the civic architecture of the Marche region of Italy during the early twentieth century.
