This paper gives first a brief but vivid synthesis of the histoy and archaeology of Tripolitania from I to IV c. A.D., with a special regard to the rural settlements and to the history of local tribes of this region. As long as the Misurata treasure is concerned, the Authors suggest that it belonged to the Roman cities of coastal Tripolitania that collected the coins to pay some allied tribes of the region to have help against the raids of the Liguatan people (Austuriani,).
