"Since the occurrence of the financial and later the economic crises, Europe has to face challenges. On the one hand there is a high youth unemployment rate of approx. 50% in some European countries such as Greece, Spain and Italy. But that is only the one side of the coin. On the other hand, several European countries (such as Germany) and their regions claim a lack of skilled workforce considering different sectors and professions. This situation leads to disequilibrium of the European labour market. While some national labour markets seem to be nearly “closed” for young people in several EU countries and the others are in search for skilled employees, the freedom of movement as one of the key rights of every EU Citizen restated in the Lisbon Treaty, could be regarded as a possibility to relax the entire situation. The project “VETYouthMobility - Improving European Internal Labour Market Through VET Mobility Programmes” aims at increasing the willingness of young people for mobility and their motivation for movement by improving the regional, national and European VET mobility programmes. Doing so, young people and especially young people with difficulties in the VET history, can get a chance to be (re)intergrated in any type of education and to the labour market. The project’s key objectives are an analysis of regional, national and EU VET mobility programmes and to measure the participation of young people in such. Secondly, a comparison of these results with non-mobility VET programmes’ participation of young people will be provided, to find out why certain groups of young people tend to participate in VET mobility programmes, while others choose non-mobility VET programmes. On that basis the expected outcomes related to the objectives are: three databases for stakeholders, a dataset of young people participating the VET programmes as well as recommendations at regional, national and EU level addressing policy makers and VET programme officers."
