Background: Globalization and migration ask to rethink the concept of citizenship, not linking it any more merely to the place of birth and to the geographic membership, but to a shared view of fundamental rights (education, health, job etc.), values and duties on which civilness and social harmony should be based. A key role is assigned to history and civic education, to be exploited not as an abstract and theoretical concept, but concretely through direct experimentation of their meaning and effects on everyday life. Aim: The project intends to involve different institutions working in the education and training system in the analysis and comprehension of the high value of the achievements reached by European societies in terms of social inclusion, tolerance, active citizenship in order to understand how these are not to be taken as granted but something to constantly work on. Needs: To make available for European teachers and trainers educational materials focusing on the theories and practices implemented in the educational policies in Europe for promoting active citizenship and social harmony. To enhance learners understanding and awareness about the importance of the concepts of citizenship focusing on how this has been developed throughout history and how it is necessary to constantly update it modifying and renovate it to the new social challenges. Activities and results: Digitalise and review sources related to the theories and practices applied in the educational and training systems of the countries involved for the development of the sense of citizenship, mutual understanding and social cohesion. Create educational materials to be used by teachers/trainers to educate their learners to the development of a new awareness and comprehension of the concept of citizenship starting from a transnational and historical perspective. Test the educational materials involving European teachers/trainers and their learners in the exploitation of the Portal contents.
