The INSTADOC - From Shadows to Light – Promoting Access to Forgotten - project is based on real needs: Social media is not known in European museums – they lack expertise, ideas, models and practices. On the other hand, there are audiences who are not able to access physical museums. In addition to that, global Covid-19 has activated cultural consumers to desire good quality online-materials. The working method of the project is using Instagram for different purposes: museums, creative professionals and service design. INSTADOC brings the hidden treasures of our museums to the bright light of the Instagram. When museums are trying to catch new audiences, Instagram is the place to be. The objectives of INSTADOC are to create new knowledge how Instagram is used in museums, to design and produce new audio-visual models and services for museums, to design and produce models and means connected to social media for creative professionals and students, to gain visibility for interesting, valuable and vulnerable items, collections and venues and to enhance skills in co-creation, service design, innovation and applying Instagram in an effective way. The innovative character of the INSTADOC project is two-dimensional: On one hand the project supports international cooperation between the cultural institutions, museums and universities across the borders. On the other hand, the project gives new possibilities for gaining new audiences for cultural institutions and museums by using social media, especially Instagram. The target groups of the project are museum personnel, creative professionals, students, researchers, policymakers, educators and European audiences. The impact for them will be built up through the INSTADOC concept, the services which help them to create something new, gain new audiences or learn from others. INSTADOC helps the target groups to create and develop new products and services, just suitable for their own institution and own expertise.
