The article is devoted to the role of antiquity in Pumpjanskij’s works with special attention to those contributions written between 1919 and 1922. Pumpjanskij is one of the prime examples of writers who link the world of literary study (in part, a world of genres and texts) with the philo- sophical world (in part, a world of analyses and arguments) in order to identify and map common aspects of antiquity and modernity into a general theory of literature.
