Through the analysis of the combative and lively magazine «L’Università italiana» [The Italian University] – one of the most active university media outlet during the post-war period – the article retraces the active debate developed around the question of the renewal of the legal and economic status of university professors and, more generally, of the moral and material reconstruction of the Italian university system after the war, still largely characterized, in its legal and academic custom, by the elitist and rigidly conservative organization given to it by the Gentile reform in 1923 and, in other respects, by the ideological and propagandist influences of the fascist regime.

Abstract

Through the analysis of the combative and lively magazine «L’Università italiana» [The Italian University] – one of the most active university media outlet during the post-war period – the article retraces the active debate developed around the question of the renewal of the legal and economic status of university professors and, more generally, of the moral and material reconstruction of the Italian university system after the war, still largely characterized, in its legal and academic custom, by the elitist and rigidly conservative organization given to it by the Gentile reform in 1923 and, in other respects, by the ideological and propagandist influences of the fascist regime.
