Robustness, the ability of a system to maintain its functions despite external and internal perturbations, has become a key-concept in the study of complex systems. However, to what extent can the unitary and robust behavior proper of living systems be assimilated to the behavior performed by artificial systems? We think that although there are relevant similarities between the concept of robustness in living and artificial systems, crucial differences should be acknowledged. The project aims to clarify the relevance of the concept of robustness in order to characterize the peculiar stability of living systems’ behavior.

Abstract
